This is a possession movie starring the characters from the original hit from two years ago. He has become a classicist in that sense. Wan no longer relies on visual gibberish. Most of his peers shoot a bunch of scenes and let the editor make a smoothie. You stick with it in part because Wan is confident enough with his staging to actually use the camera frame to tell a story. Insidious: Chapter 2 works according to its own logic, and it’s fun watching the movie’s hokey premise come together in the final act.
